In case of theft...
Checklist
Test your performance
Basic precautions
Never leave your vehicle unattended with the key in the ignition.
Shut off the engine and lock the doors and trunk when you step out of the car, even if it is just for a few minutes.
Close the windows and sun roof.
Parking
When in the city, choose a parking lot with surveillance. And keep your ticket with you rather than place it on the dashboard. It makes it more difficult for a thief to leave the parking lot, which may dissuade him from stealing your car.
At home, park your car as close as possible to your home.
When parking, block your wheels by turning them to one side and put on the handbrake. This makes it more difficult for thieves to tow your vehicle.
Keys
Never leave your spare key in or under the car.
Never attach a label with your name or address on your key chain
Security measures
Get a chipped key. This prevents the vehicle from being started by any other means.
Purchase a steering wheel-locking device.
Look into other measures, such as engraving vehicle parts, an audible alarm system and a tracking and location system.
Never give out your alarm system code or describe how your ignition disabler works.
Other measures
Never leave your car registration or proof of insurance in your car.
When selling your vehicle, always ride along with the purchaser during the road test.
